The Araucana is a breed of domestic chicken from Chile. The name derives from the historic Araucanía region where it is believed to have originated. It lays blue-shelled eggs, one of very few breeds that do so.
Araucanas thrive in various environments but prefer temperate climates. They are adaptable to different living conditions but need adequate space to roam and forage. They are resilient and can be kept in both rural and suburban settings.

Araucanas are known for their distinctive blue eggs, which are a result of a genetic trait. They are also recognized for their lack of a tail due to a genetic mutation. This breed is popular among poultry enthusiasts for its unique appearance and egg color.
