The Asil or Aseel is an Indian breed or group of breeds of game chicken. It is distributed in much of India, particularly in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha; it has been exported to several other countries. Similar fowl are found throughout much of Southeast Asia.
Aseel chickens are predominantly found in rural and agricultural areas of India, especially in states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. They thrive in warm climates and are often kept in backyards or open spaces where they can roam freely. While originally from India, they have also been exported and adapted to other countries with similar environments.
Ease of Keeping
Beginner friendly: 3/5
Aseel chickens are known for their fighting abilities and have a strong, muscular build. They are also known for their distinctive upright posture and are often used in the breeding of other gamefowl. Despite their aggressive nature, they can be quite tame towards humans.

Confinement Tolerance
Aseel chickens can tolerate confinement, though they prefer to free-range and forage. Care should be taken as their aggressive nature might lead to fights if confined with other birds. They require mental and physical stimulation to prevent boredom.
